Sembach Kaserne

Location
Sembach Kaserne is a United States Army installation about 45 minutes east of Ramstein Air Base and serves a population of about 2,000. Sembach Kaserne is in Sembach, Germany, near Kaiserslautern.

History
Sembach’s military history dates back to a French airfield following World War I. In 1951, it became a U.S. air base. In January 2010, U.S. Army Installation Management Command, Europe Region, received Army approval to accept the transfer of the base, located just northeast of Kaiserslautern in the German state of Rheinland Pfalz.

The transfer of the base, now called Sembach kaserne, is primarily based on the future
Army stationing needs as required to support Army Europe transformation. In Dec. 2009, the 230th Military Police Company relocated from Rhine Ordnance Barracks to Sembach. No final decisions have been made as to what other organizations and units will permanently relocate to Sembach.

U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern’s Installation Management Command officially acquired Sembach Kaserne, formerly known as Sembach Annex, in October 2010 from the U.S. Air Force, which had occupied it since the early 1950s.

Effective 1 April, 1995, Sembach Air Base became an annex of Ramstein Air Base and is thus referred to as the Sembach Annex. Sembach Annex is part of what is called the Kaiserslautern military Community [the “KMC”].

Sembach Kaserne is the headquarters for the Installation Management Command-Europe, the U.S. Army Europe Band, and the 30th Medical Command, among others.
