Cherry Point MCAS

Location

Cherry Point MCAS’s  primary facility is centrally located on the eastern seaboard, accessible by air, rail, highway, waterway, and deep-water port facilities. The command also has permanent sites at Marine Corps Air Stations New River, N.C., and Beaufort, S.C.; and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.

Mission

Population Served

FRC East has a workforce of about 3,600 civilian, military, and contractor personnel. It is both the largest tenant command on Cherry Point, and North Carolina’s largest industrial employer east of Interstate 95. Its annual payroll exceeds $277 million. The average age of the workforce is 46, and many of them are members of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, American Federation of Government Employees, and National Association of Aeronautical Examiners unions.

The depot has 110 artisans and engineering personnel on its rapid response team, which can deploy anywhere worldwide within 24 to 72 hours.

Base Transportation

FRC East’s primary facility is centrally located on the eastern seaboard and is accessible by air, rail, highway, waterway, and deep-water port facilities.

By Air:
The closest commercial airport to Cherry Point is Coastal Carolina Regional Airport, in New Bern. Approximately 20 miles from the air station For reservations, call 1-800-428-4322. Taxicab service and car rentals are available.

From South Carolina: Take N I-95 to 70 E. Follow 70 E to Havelock.

From Tennessee: Take 40 East to 70 E. Follow 70 E to Havelock.

From Virginia: Take 85 S, 95 S to 70 E. Follow 70 E to Havelock.

Alternate Virginia Route: Take 64 S to 13 W, Take 13W to 17 S, Take 17 S to 70 E.  Follow 70 East to Havelock.

From Georgia: Follow N I-85 to 40 E, Take 40 E to 70 E. Follow 70 E to Havelock.

Sponsorship

A sponsor is another active duty marine/Sailor at the duty station that you will be PCSing to that will assist you in your arrival. If you are PCSing outside the United States, you are required to have a sponsor. You may either see someone in the Relocation Assistance office or your sponsorship coordinator at your squadron for a sponsorship request form. Sponsors will contact you when they are assigned and find out what assistance you may need prior to and upon arrival to your new duty station. Things such as transportation from the airport, making reservations for billeting and such are typical duties of the sponsor. Your sponsor can provide you with information on the area and what it’s like living there.

Temporary Quarters

Cherry Point offers both an Officers’ and Enlisted Transient lodging facilities. Both facilities are open 7 days a week and offer 24 hour, quality, affordable lodging.

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance on a space available basis. Before going to a motel or other temporary accommodation, a statement of “non-availability” must be obtained from either the TOQ or TEQ, which you will submit with your travel claim.

No pets allowed in any of the on base transient lodging facilities aboard Cherry Point.

Critical Installation Information

Family Housing is available for military personnel reporting to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point.

In order to apply for base housing aboard MCAS Cherry Point:

1. Complete an application for Housing, DD Form 1746, and forward it to the Commanding General, Housing Department, MCAS, PSC Box 8034, Cherry Point, NC 28533-0034, no later than 10 days prior to your detachment from your current duty station.
2. Attach a copy of your current Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders or your Page 3 from your Service Record Book.
3.Attach a copy of your Dependency Application from your Service Record Book.
