NAS Lemoore

Location

Naval Air Station Lemoore, the Navy’s prime West Coast Tactical Naval Air Station, is located in California’s Central Valley. The town of Lemoore is a military-friendly, low to medium cost area. The zip code for the base is 93246. The surrounding area is covered for as far as the eye can see with agricultural crops of all types. Lemoore is home to the Pacific Strike Fighter Wing with its supporting facilities. In July 1998, NAS Lemoore was selected as the West Coast site for the Navy’s newest strike-fighter aircraft, the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet. The base operator’s phone number is 559-998-0100.

History

In 1954, the Navy searched the central California area for land to build a master jet air station – one with congestion-free air space. Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and nearby accommodations.

Mission

NAS Lemoore’s primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of the mission is the operational area. Designed to support more than 20 fleet squadrons, it serves as master training center for the carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the Pacific Fleet.

Population Served

Naval Air Station Lemoore serves approximately 7,200 military, 1,300 civilians, and 10,900 dependents, 12,825 Retirees/Dependents, 500 Students/ Transients, and 825 reservists.

Base Transportation

The Naval Air Station Lemoore operates a station bus service that makes scheduled morning and afternoon runs between the Administration Area (where the BEQ’s and BOQ’s are located) and the Operations Area (where hangars are located). There is no on-base bus service on Saturdays and Federal Holidays or evenings. Times and stop locations are available from Public Works Transportation.

Sponsorship

The NAS Lemoore Sponsor Coordinator is the point of contact for all commands stationed at NAS Lemoore. If you need a Sponsor, call 559-998-3361 or DSN 312-949-3361. Navy personnel will be able to check into their respective commands during normal working hours. For proper reporting procedures please contact your ultimate command’s duty office. If your ultimate command is deployed when you report, you are to report to the Transient Personnel Department (TPD) located in Building 730, Wing 3 during normal working hours. After normal working hours, report to the Hornet Desk. If you are a student reporting to CNATTU contact their duty office at 559-998-4851.

Temporary Quarters

Upon arrival, single service members will stay at the Bachelors Enlisted/Officers Quarters the first night after arriving at NAS Lemoore. Additional information is available at 559-998-4609, the Hornet’s Desk. Married couples may receive up to 10 days Temporary Lodging Allowance and may make reservations in advance at the Navy Lodge by calling 559-998-4924. There are many other local hotels in the surrounding area. No pets are allowed in temporary quarters. Resources for local pet kennels can be obtained by calling the Fleet & Family Support Center, Information & Referral Specialist at 559-998-4042.

Relocation Assistance

The Fleet & Family Support Center has a full range of relocation services including Newcomer’s Guides, Base Maps, Telephone Directories, and extensive information on the local area. We also have a Loan Locker. For relocation assistance, call 559-998-4042. Once you arrive at Naval Air Station, Lemoore you will be scheduled for a Base Indoctrination which is held once a month. Spouses are strongly encouraged to attend. We also have a Married to the Military for new and not so new – Welcome to Lemoore Workshop held quarterly at the Fleet & Family Support Center.

Critical Installation Information

The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. Please note that long distance charges may be incurred.
