Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station

Location

Pittsburgh IAP/ARS is located in Southwestern Pennsylvania in Allegheny county in the city of Coraopolis. The topography of the area is filled with mountains often covered by natural deciduous forests, along with streams and abundant wild life. The cost of living is moderate, housing costs are reasonable by national standards.

History

The unit was first established in 1941. Various aircraft platforms have been used ranging from interceptors to transport aircraft.

Mission

911th Airlift Wing is to organize, recruit and train Air Force personnel to provide airlift of airborne forces, their equipment and supplies and delivery of these forces and materials by air drop, landing or cargo extraction systems. The unit also provides intra-theater aero-medical evacuation.

Population Served

There is an authorized manning of about 1,275 Air Force Reserve members and approximately 320 civilian employees (including more than 180 dual-status air reserve technicians.) The total military, retired, and family population in a 50 mile radius is 166,000.

Base Transportation

Currently, there is no base transportation on this installation.

Sponsorship

In coming personnel should contact their respective unit in order to obtain a sponsor. If there are problems in obtaining a sponsor, Customer Service at the Military Support Flight should be contacted at 412-474-8526 or DSN 312-277-8526. When calling ask to speak to the Wing Intro Monitor.

Temporary Quarters

Lodging is normally plentiful at Pittsburgh Lodging. Thirty days notice is required for Permanent Change of Station (PCS) personnel. Reservations for up to 30 days are permitted. Thirty days notice is required for those needing lodging in support of a Unit Training Assembly (UTA). Space available lodging is available and reservations can be made at any time, but confirmation that a room is available must be made the day prior. Space available persons are normally limited to 72 hours stay, but may be extended if space remains available. Call 412-474-8230 or DSN 312-277-8320.

Relocation Assistance

As Pittsburgh ARS is a Reserve installation only limited relocation services are available. Newcomers briefing is held the Saturday of each UTA. Please contact us at 412-474-8544 or DSN 31-277-8544 if you have questions regarding your relocation to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh does not have a loan closet.

Critical Installation Information

Passports and Visas

Ensure member and/or dependents have the required passports and/or visa prior to final out-processing. Member and/or dependents are not allowed to final out-process without the required passports/visas in hand for themselves (if applicable) and/or dependents. Members electing the accompanied tour will not be permitted to out-process without having the required passports/visas in hand for themselves (if applicable) and/or dependents.

These actions are necessary to prevent unforeseen hardships to the military members and their families. Therefore, as a last reiteration, it is essential, members do not out-process without having the appropriate passports/visas for themselves (if applicable) and/or dependents.
