Patrick Air Force Base

Patrick AFB is the world’s premier gateway to space. The base is responsible for delivering assured space launch, range and combat capabilities for the Nation. It is considered the Department of Defense’s East Coast Space Port and provider’s of launch support services. The base serves all Branches, active duty and reserve personnel, retirees, DoD civilians and their families.

Location

Patrick AFB is a United States Air Force base, located on the East Coast of central Florida; 3 miles south of Cocoa Beach. The base is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River, 12 miles north of Melbourne, Fla.

History

Patrick AFB was originally developed as a Long Range Proving Ground in 1950. It is now dedicated to launching missiles. Patrick AFB was named in honor of Major General Mason Patrick, a U.S. Army general and air power advocate.

Prior to arriving at Patrick, it is necessary to make reservations for temporary lodging. The Space Coast Inn provides lodging excellence in support of the 45th Space Wing readiness and peacetime mission. Due to seasonal high occupancy rates, you are urged to contact lodging well in advance to secure your reservation.

New arrivals have priority but it is advised that you or your sponsor take care of your billeting arrangements as soon as possible. Reservations can be made by your sponsor or by directly calling (321) 494-6590.

Relocation Assistance

Relocation counseling, sponsorship assistance and information on personal finances are available at the Airman & Family Readiness Center. (321) 494-5676
